International Dance Day
Samuel Beckett, the celebrated playwright gave us a rather interesting message! He said, “Dance first, think later, it is the natural order.”
To honour the universality of the art form, the International Dance Day is celebrated every year on April 29. We also pay tribute to Jean- Georges Noverre, who brought about a revolution to the dance form of ballet. Renowned as the father of modern ballet, he turned the dance form of ballet into an elegant story telling.
International Dance Day is a true global celebration that breaks down barriers to bring people together. Reveling in the same spirit, DPS, RAK celebrated the International Dance Day in school. The dance teacher, Ms. Reshma Radhakrishan inaugurated the celebrations by reading out an informative piece highlighting the grandeur of this day.
This was followed by an energetic Garba and Dandiya dance performance by her. ‘Dandiya’ and ‘Garba’ are one among the many popular Indian traditional dance forms performed as a part of the rituals during the nine-day long festival of Navratri.
The performance was performed and streamed live for both, the students on campus and students who joined us online. The students enjoyed tapping their feet to the foot-tapping music and showered thunderous applause for their teacher.
The assembly got even more special when the winners of the Colouring Competition for Kindergarten were announced today. The Principal, Mrs. Karunakaran congratulated the winners.
Quoting Lee Ann’s song, “If you can a chance to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance.” Because as they say, dance washes our sorrows and worries away!
